Studio NYL expands to meet demand

Growing desire for firm’s inventive approach to architectural-based structural and facade services drives expansion of staff, leadership, and studio space.

Boulder, Colorado—October 6, 2015

Studio NYL, a leading Boulder-based structural engineering and façade design firm known internationally for its progressive approach to supporting architects in their design of high-performance, dynamic structures, today announced multiple promotions, new hires and a substantial expansion of the firm’s open studio. The firm also reports that their revenues have doubled since 2012, with a fifty percent increase over the last 18 months alone.

“Our clients’ growing need for innovative structural engineering services, both domestically and around the globe, has once again catalyzed the need for expanded leadership, staff and a larger office,” states Julian Lineham, PE, co-founder and principal of Studio NYL. “These new professionals bring exceptional skills to our growing team, which will allow us to maintain the highest level of service as we increase our capabilities and offerings to architects and developers.”

Ted Godfrey, PE SECB, who joined Studio NYL in 2006 as Senior Engineer, has been promoted to Principal and Structural Technical Director. As the design lead on a number of the firm’s most noteworthy projects, he joins Founding Principals Julian Lineham and Christopher O’Hara to guide the firm through its next phase of growth.

Susan Jorgensen, PE, who recently joined the studio as Quality Control Manager, is licensed in seven states and active in professional structural organizations on a state and national level (including NCSEA, ACI, SEI of ASCE, NCEES, SEAC, SEAoN). She brings extensive management and team development experience to the studio and is currently mentoring teams on projects like the Boulder-CO-based Boulder Commons Net Zero offices, Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, CO, and a large confidential arts facility in Arkansas.

Design Engineer Katie Gargaro, PE, was also recently hired. She specializes in creative structures and is currently designing several luxury residences, a sculptural civic space for a park revitalization in Detroit, MI, and working with Susan on the confidential project in Arkansas. Katie received both her Bachelor of Science (2008), and Master of Science in Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering (2013) from the University of Michigan. She is also Activities Chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Alex Worden, the studio’s Parametric Lead and a Façade Architect, has been with the firm since the fall of 2014 and is celebrating his recent elevation to Registered Architect. Alex is currently working on several high-profile projects in San Francisco, Miami, New York City and Boston, including one at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with design firm NADAAA, Inc. Several of his projects have not yet been announced publicly, but detailed information will be released to press soon.

Travis McLain and Ryan Richer have also joined the studio as Architectural Interns/REVIT modelers, and Elizabeth O’Hara, who is currently in the process of redesigning Studio NYL’s website, is the new Marketing Manager.

The firm is also in the process of building out a new custom-designed office space, which will encompass twice their current square footage. Move in is projected for October 2015.
