Insulated Concrete Forms

Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) are typically utilized as a system for foundations or basements only. However, ICF walls can be successfully utilized in building superstructures. The benefits of this form of construction are good sound insulation and fire resistive construction. The project below used an ICF system on the demising walls so that the whole building could be tied together laterally, thereby eliminating costly holdowns and heavily sheathed wood shear walls. On this project two sets of building units were oriented perpendicular to each other and could laterally brace each other.
